Porch Season

Introduction: It’s not even March yet, and it’s already heating up here in the Nevada desert.“Porch Season”

The air is brisk and clean
While the shrubs are fully green
New buds are blooming everywhere
Leaflets are sprouting
As are new weeds
Yet the tree is brown and bare
The heater’s been off for days
As the fan goes round and round
The front door is open and the pups run free
Bird songs fill the air
As I sit with a wine glass
On the porch
