Sunday with Dave: To Dad

“To Dad,”

Throughout the struggles and conflicts
one to focus from where the other zealously views,
an inwarding pain and an exiting embrace
others would testify as failure,
but the richness of it
indicts success as a sere pride,
even if we find ourselves
locked to a hope
neither of us would have anticipated,
where the pierce has reasoning other than the lunge,
or the bleed holds its own
beyond the compulsion of loss,
by this means that never settles
the ready made sense,
our lives fought for separately
their unfinished clasp.
