Out on the Porch

Background: My husband and I were given a beautiful wooden bench for our front porch as a wedding present by my cousin and her family, and while the summer weather here in the Nevada desert has kept us away from using it, it’s been getting “cooler” (not in the triple digits), so we’ve been able to sit out after my husband comes home from work. While our porch faces the street, and we really don’t have a view, we enjoy every minute we can get outside with our dogs lounging by our feet. It’s the little things that bring us happiness, and we try not to take it for granted.

“Out on the Porch”

by Elle

Doesn’t feel at all like Autumn
Sitting out on the porch
One pup at my feet
Keeping guard out on the porch
The sun’s shining, breeze warm
Out here on the porch
A hummingbird flits about
The flowers out on the porch
The bees join in with harmonic buzz
Among the buds out on the porch

Doesn’t feel at all like Autumn
Lounging out on the porch
One pup at my honey’s side
Getting petted out on the porch
Everything’s in full bloom and green
Out here on the porch
The air is dry as is the ground
Here out on the porch
With my honey beside me
We sit hand in hand out on the porch
